Margo is a tanuki who loves his elderly owner more than anything in the world. One day, Margo's peaceful life is shattered when his beloved grandpa suddenly collapses and is rushed away in an ambulance. Desperate to follow him, Margo races out into the road... directly into the path of a truck. As his life slips away, Margo has only one wish: he wants to see Grandpa again. That's when a mysterious tanuki goddess appears. She offers Margo a chance to come back to life, but there's a catch. If he wants his wish granted, he'll have to travel to another world and gather the scattered fragments of a legendary treasure known as the Mangan Seiju, an artifact capable of granting wishes. And so an ordinary Japanese tanuki finds himself reincarnated in a world of fantasy and magic. Armed with boundless self-confidence, an extremely tanuki-like talent for getting himself into trouble, and a growing group of companions, Margo sets off across this unfamiliar world in search of the treasure that can reunite him with the person he loves most. Unfortunately, his journey isn't exactly smooth. His adventures take him into foreign territories, strange encounters and eventually even prison, as the supposedly ordinary Japanese “rare beast” repeatedly leaves the inhabitants of another world wondering what exactly they've gotten themselves involved with. A lighthearted fantasy adventure about a ridiculously confident tanuki traveling across another world in search of a wish-granting treasure and a way home to his beloved grandpa.
